About & History Of Mata Matha Puri
This Ashram(Matha) is situated in Puri town, Puri district. It was created in the 16th Century CE during the reign of King Mukundadeva. it is a very old and famous monastery in Puri. the visitors who came to Lord Jagannath Temple also visited the Matha. it is only 3.5 km from the famous temple.
The old architecture of the Matha is very attractive. thousands of devotes came to the Monastery. at the entry point of the Matha, there is a big statue of Lord Jagannath. After that Lord Bishnu & Lord Shiva statues were also created there. The figure indicates the history of gods and what they did before like Samudra Manthan etc.
The monastery is dedicated to Adi Shankaracharya. and is also famous for its unique architecture that indicates both Hindu and Buddhist monasteries. there is the largest Chaitanya Statue In Odisha. they charge a nominal fee as an entry fee that is Rs.10 per head. Mata Matha is also known as SRI GOUR VIHAR ASHRAMA.
